The state of Texas has long been known as a hotbed for bass fishing, and the latest catch by Texas angler Jason Conn only confirms that reputation. Conn was fishing on Lake OH Ivie on Monday, February 13, 2023, when he caught a 17-pound largemouth bass, which is one of the largest ever caught in the state.
Using an Alabama Rig and live imaging while guiding some clients, Conn was able to capture the entire catch on video, which he posted on his Facebook page, Jason Conn Fishing. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has recognized the catch as a ShareLunker, the largest caught this season.
In a post on his Facebook page, Conn shared his disbelief and gratitude, saying, “Unbelievable day…So unreal and I am still in shock. Thank you to everyone for all the calls and texts. Means everything to me. I’ve worked my butt off to get where I am and stoked to have my first certified Share Lunker she’s the number 8 largest bass ever caught in Texas weighing 17.03.”
The catch comes just one year after another 17-pounder was caught by an angler and his son. Despite the excitement around his catch, Conn is not claiming the lake record for the largest bass caught due to concerns that the fish was in shock and may have thrown up its food before it was weighed.
Nonetheless, Conn’s catch is impressive and cements Texas’s reputation as one of the best places for bass fishing in the world. The video of his catch can be seen on his Facebook page along with more details of the remarkable day.
